Can you be too honest on a first date?

When you first meet someone on a night out and you are about to embark on a first date there can be lots of nerves jangling about.  You have the usual nerves because you don’t know him, will it be a success, will you still like him in the cold light of day or there could be the added complication of whether you should you tell him you have just left your husband and have 2 kids?

Should you be entirely honest right from the beginning?  In my opinion yes you should, after all if he runs at the first hurdle then it is best to know before the relationship goes further whether he is worth getting to know properly.  It might scare him off knowing you have kids but then could you consider having a relationship with someone who is not interested in your kids or doesn’t make the effort to get to know them.

Mind you if you have just left your husband are you ready to embark on a relationship anyway?  Is it a good idea?  If you have been separated a while and have kids then I don’t think kids are as big an issue as they would of been years ago.  It is relatively common these days for people to have children and be single and I think many people realise that as you get older it is harder to find someone who is not without children or a broken relationship behind them.

I truly believe that if any relationship you embark on is to work then you have to be honest from the off.  If you base a relationship on lies then it will never work, also, if you are not truthful then every time you meet for a date or are together you are going to be on tenderhooks and always watching what you say in case you say the wrong thing.  The fact that you lied for so long might actually put him off and make him walk away.  He might actually be a decent bloke who would not of minded if you had children or had just separated or cared for a sick relative or whatever it is you have hidden from him but he might not be able to live with the fact you lied.

Be honest – it truly is the best policy!
