You’ve discovered your fella has lied to you! Why did he do that? He says he was one place and was somewhere else.

It is all too easy to jump to conclusions and assume he was up to something that he shouldn’t of been and with someone else but, perhaps the reality is something all together different.

Are you possesive? Do you demand to know his every move? Does he have friends he has known for years that you don’t like? Sometimes these are all reasons that your other half may lie to you. The truth be told it is easier for him to tell a lie than be honest with you if he knows you are going to go ‘off on one’ followed by a huge row.

Just because he is going out for a pint with his mate who is incapable of having a night out without pulling or has a dreadful reputation with the ladies does not mean your boyfriend will behave the same as his friend. If you cannot have trust and faith in your boyfriend then your relationship is doomed. How would you feel if your other half demanded that you didn’t see your best friend and demanded to know where you are every second of the day and with whom?

It is not healthy and in the end you would end up lying too. Sometimes we need to look at ourselves when we discover someone we love has lied to us and sometimes our unreasonable behaviour is the cause of the lying. We cannot control someone.

Sometimes a little white lie can save a lot of hassle so for me lying is acceptable. Of course it depends on the lie – if someone chats you up whilst you are out and you know that your partner is going to go off on one and a fight could possibly ensue then it is better to not mention it at all (which is technically not a lie) or if he does ask then just say ‘no’.

I never really understood why girls would actually go out their way to tell boyfriends, who they knew were jealous and would ‘go-off’ on one that someone had made a pass at them. I can only assume this is to fill their own neediness, and therefore this is not a healthy relationship.

Every know and again a white lie is needed. I mean, if your best friend is on the large side and asks if she looks big in what she is wearing you are not going to say to her, “Well actually you always look big” are you? You say, “No it looks fine” and you lie. Although you would tell her if something didn’t suit her.

Sometimes a lie is needed to spare someones feelings or to stop a situation occuring that might not be good. Compulsive lying? Well that’s a different matter!
